As with many people, here at The Water Cooler Company, we get excited when people come up with new ideas and initiatives that are related to our own area of expertise- that being water, and the plumbed in water cooler.
We recently got wind of research being conducted at North Carolina State University, where staff are developing a new kind of environmentally-friendly solar panel, for which the main component is water. The idea behind the project is to illustrate the clear and definite need to make solar panels more compatible with natural resources and the environment, which has lead the scientists to explore using water-based gels, chlorophyll and electrodes covered in carbon materials, such as carbon nanotubes or graphite.
So far, the results of this research shows that the panels are reacting to light in such as way that a plant may do, although instead of producing oxygen, electricity is generated. Certainly a worthwhile project we say, and we’re excited to hear how the development continues.
If you’d like to share any more water-based stories or news with us, or need more information about getting a plumbed in water cooler, please do get in touch, and one of our team will be on hand to help.
