Office water coolers are made redundant in Australian town

Newsagent holding a plastic bottle in BundanoonThe small town of Bundanoon, located in New South Wales, Australia, has recently announced a stop in the selling of bottled water to its residents in an effort to promote reusable, and therefore more economical packaging. Pumps will instead be built around the town, from which suppliers will bottle the water and sell it to the locals. The production of plastic bottles will be reduced, and the ongoing struggle to encourage people to recycle will be partly solved. A nice idea in practice- using locally sourced product instead of spending on importing something that is available on the doorstep, and the reduced waste of plastic bottles– however not everyone is enamoured by the idea. The Australasian Bottled Water Institute says that people buy the bottled water because they like the taste, something which may be lost with the differing properties of the local water. Here at The Water Cooler Company we certainly get a number of comments from our clients praising the taste of the water on their home and office water coolers. Not only this, but the practicality of transporting water to an office for a number of workers may prove to be a difficulty, and certainly more tricky to overcome.
What are your thoughts on this? What if this were to come into force in the UK and it affected your home or office bottled water supply? Please do leave a comment and let us know, we’d love to hear from you.
