Dengue Fever Fears in Ludhiana

patients are drinking dirty water from the plumbed in water coolerA city in the Punjab region of India is facing strains on its health authorities and hospitals, as numerous patients are being brought in, as dengue fever continues to spread from person to person. Both the Family Welfare Department and the Health Department in the city of Ludhiana have stated that the current number of patients currently being cared for is 970, however other sources say that the number is much higher- around 3,000. Although people suffering are being taken to hospital, it has been reported that patients who are suffering from deteriorating health once in the care of the city’s doctors, are blaming their heightened state of ill-health on the lack of awareness of hygiene and general cleanliness around the hospitals they’re stationed in. In particular comments were made about the dirty plumbed in water cooler units, which patients and staff were encouraged to drink from.
